I want them all.

Thrift Store finds last week

anniescupboards Reply 12:34 PM
I found a few goodies last week.

Some of these items above are already
getting a make over.

That Owl went over hubby's side of the bed.

I have been buying only what I LOVE and must have
in vintage Pyrex. This Snowflake bowl came home with me.
I have been finding a bunch of dresses lately in my size
at the thrift stores. I even found a dress I already own.
I think this is the summer of the thrifty dresses for me.
I had to go to the back of the thrift store to pick up my sewing
table and when I went to the side door all I could see was this.
I wanted that deer. It was made from paper. The ear was mangled tho.
I have no idea where I would even put that thing. It is huge.
Hubby would be like. Ummmm No.
I would love to rummage through all the donated
items. Oh wow. Each box. Gimme!!

Vintage Wood Sewing Table Makeover

anniescupboards 1 12:26 PM
I plan on making over this table.
I am not going to use it for sewing.
I want to use it in my living room.
For decor.
I love the lines on this table.

I paid $5 for this table.
I am really good at finding the deals!
I will come back and post updated photos.

Thrift Store Make Overs

anniescupboards Reply 12:05 PM
I have been making over a bunch of
thrift store items I have purchased.
Most of them are plain wood.
I have white walls and lots of wood furniture.
I need color. I really do.
You can only stare at brown so much.

I have been thinking about offering some of my
thrifty make overs at the next craft show I plan
to vend at.

I primed these shelves before I painted them.
To be honest if you need a DIY tutorial on how to spray paint something
I can tell you really quick on what I learned.

MAKE SURE YOU ARE OUTSIDE WHEN SPRAY PAINTING!
*use a mask and gloves*
(Or dish gloves and a scratch up pair of bugged out eyeglasses you never wear)
That is what I did.

Step 1. Clean off thrift item very well. Get rid of the dirt and
dust that can be removed.

Step 2. Sand if you feel it is too slippery or has too many layers of peeling paint.
I recommend just a smooth light sanding for plain wood that is not painted or treated.

Step 3.  Primer. When to use it. I say this is your call. As a DIY crafter I tend to see
how dark the item is first. If its dark wood, primary colors or black I prime it.
I like spray paint primer. It dries so fast. It is very forgiving if you missed
some areas of dust or a bug flies into your piece. You can use
a dry napkin and just rub in one direction, several times and
you can get those things off and still have primer stay on.
If you use primer I have noticed that when you go to add your
color you use LESS of the color.

Step 4. Follow the directions on the can. Before you spray your item do a test spray
on something else like cardboard to make sure your nosel is working and
the paint is coming out nice and even. I did have to take a can back because it just never sprayed but was totally full.

Step 5.  Give it a second coat. Maybe even a third. Make sure you are letting it
dry between each time you are applying the coats.

Step 6. After all the drying has taken place and usually for me this is outside or
I move items to the garage when it rains. But I always spray OUTSIDE. I will
take my thrifty freshly painted item and put it in the house in my crafty room
and leave it alone for 24 to 48 hours to let it set.
It usually feels slippery soft and not tacky when it is completely dried and set.

You will find these for sale at the next crafty show I vend at.
I am a little frame crazy right now.
So I have spilled it into my crafting.
You can hang your sunglasses or maybe
an invitation or photo even hair clips.

Pin Cushion frame. I am really about the yellow this year!

Baby ducks in the backyard

6 little baby ducks are keeping hubby busy with his cardio.
He keeps chasing them away. I keep saying
Awwwwww they are so cute!

I was on Vacation last week

anniescupboards 4 11:23 AM
Some people can never understand my love
for Disney World. They don't see what I see.
They have no idea why I love it so much.
It is the happiest place on Earth.

Hubb surprised me with Annual Disney passes and
a vacation get away for several days at Disney.
I was really shocked, surprised and happy.
It has been some time since we took a real vacation.
We are going back as much as we can since we have
annual passes. I am already planning for September.
I might even do Halloween there.

French Onion Soup @ Grand Floridian Cafe

If you go to Disney, you have to research for where to get the most
yummiest meals. They do offer a ton of quickie stuff. If you research where
the foodies eat, you will be set and not stuck eating the quickie stuff. We bring
snacks with us and lunch stuff. I find it easier to have lunch at the hotel
and then pool time before heading back to the parks. We bring
water, fresh fruit and lots of it. Organic Sweet Tater and Organic
Corn chips and granola bars. Muffins for the morning and tequila for cocktails.

Hubby and I have been to Disney enough times to know where not
to spend the money and where to spend the money.
I love their food. We find new places to eat every time we go.
Inside Magic Kingdom there are a few key places to go to.
One of my secrets is THE PLAZA. I recommend you
make reservation for this place for lunch or dinner. But I prefer lunch.
That steak and cheese sub. Oh my! Everything on that
menu looks fabulous and I plan on working my way through it.
I have been going there for years. It's a little yummy secret of mine.
 Inside the Grand Floridian

We went to the 50's diner in Hollywood Studios.
It is yummy for the eyes and for the tummy.
They treat you like you are family.
So they say everyone there is cousins and sisters
and uncles and what not.
It was really cute.
"Cousin RAY and SHERRY your table is ready.
MOM wants you to get some grub."
Everything is set up in the 50's in there. The servers, the staff
the booths. The inside looks like dining room and kitchen eating areas.
it was REALLY fabulous for someone like me who loves
vintage kitchens. The tables, the displays. You have to go.
The food is amazing. AMAZING! The staff, SO FUN!

So I am walking to my next ride in Hollywood Studios and look who cuts me off.
Yesssss!
Darth Vader!

It was the last week of Star Tours Weekend.
Hollywood Studios Celebrates Star Wars and
they go all out. I wore my Star Wars DRESS!
SO MANY PEOPLE told me they loved my dress.
I was like Yessss I am rocking the Return of the Jedi dress and Loving it.
I saw lots of people who had matching shirts. Even a few
had on Hubby's Star Wars shirt. But I can tell you this, NO ONE
was wearing a dress made from bedsheets like I was.
Kids young and old were admiring that thing. I was asked to take photos.
Grown men yelling "AWESOME DRESS, I HAD THOSE SHEETS AS A KID".

I got a message from the daughter of the gentlemen who
actually drew all the art work for the bedding for the first
movies. You can see the post here. I am going to cut and paste it so
you can read it here:

Amy said...
I just saw your photo over on Arterpillar -- your dress is fabulous! I just wanted to tell you that way back in the early 80's my Dad designed those sheets - he was an art director/designer for a textile company and he worked on every bit of bedding for the first three Star Wars movies. The first time I saw that pattern it was being hand painted on a giant roll of paper. I love so so much that his sheets have been getting new life lately, your awesome dress is a perfect example. I just wanted to let you know that his family is loving that, and he would have too!

That message had me so smiling.
I am so honored. I love the first 3 movies. They
are to me the only ones that count. I am not a fan of the last three
movies. HA. There I said it. Call me old school.
These sheets are fabulous and I am so excited to learn about them
and the artist. The reason I chose that sheet to make into
a dress is because of the graphics. I had to make sure I got the front the
back and each side piece with a character on it.
Almost every single Disney employee was screaming "LOVE YOUR DRESS!"
I used my Iphone to capture all my photos this trip.
I am really loving the camera phone these days.
They work almost like my Sony Cyber Shot did back in the day.

I was crying like a baby while watching this.
I was so happy to see it back.
You have no idea how long I have been waiting.
It was perfect. I loved it.
It was just like I remembered.
I miss Michael Jackson and I loved seeing Captain EO!
It was 198o's all over again.
I wore my Disney Snow White Dress to Magic Kingdom.
That dress was pretty much just as a success as the Star Wars one.
Everyone was LOVING IT!
My friend is going to Disney with her daughter for the very
first time. After seeing my dress she asked me to make her one.
I am. I am so excited about it. I will show it off when done.

Chicken Dinner @ Grand Floridian Cafe

Grass Fed Cow made Burger @ Grand Floridian Cafe

I'm like throwing hints here. You have to try the lunch and dinner
@ Grand Floridian Cafe. By the way, I took off that lobster
off my burger.  I love lobster but not on my burger.
I could only eat half of that burger. It was AMAZING.
Not a single slice of cheese was on it and it did not need it.
Amazing.

We stayed at the Polynesian. It's so romantic.
You have access to the monorail at anytime.
It goes two Epcot and Magic Kingdom.
It also goes to Grand Floridian and The Contemporary Resort.
You have to take the bus to the other parks and hotels.

 Oh Cotton Candy!
 The chocolate!!

Thrift Store Night Stand Makeover

anniescupboards 2 10:26 AM
I bought this night stand a few weeks back.
I had a hard time trying to figure out what to paint it.
I knew buying it I would be painting it.
I have white walls all over the house.
I rent and I do not want to paint every single room.
So in order for me to get some color in the rooms
I have been putting pops of color in there.

I would love to get those cling vinyls you stick to the wall.
That would be about as much paint or detail as I am willing to go.
My crafty room is painted aqua. That is all the
painting I need to do.

This is my first large project that involved using a sander.
I found so many tutorials online that I felt
super confident about doing this. I had to wait
for a good weather day to do this project.
Florida is very humid and it could rain at any time.
Over the weekend was perfect.
I set out a big old blanket and went to town.
I painted it such a bright yellow. I was after
a complete bright yellow. I used Krylon pray paint.
You have to use this stuff outside. It is a killer.
You might wanna use gloves and goggles too.
I did. I finally have long nails. I want to keep them.
Took time to grow these babies out. Ha!

My next project will be a hutch.
I just need to find the right one.
I am almost completed with my mini master bedroom
makeover. I will have photos soon.

Boring Brown No more!

Thrift Store Finds

anniescupboards 1 10:17 AM
I have been waiting to find another one
of these spice racks. I have one currently hanging
in my craft room. It was white so I did not need to paint
it. This one will get a coat a paint. I am not sure
which room I am going to use this in. Two rooms
are currently demanding it. I have to choose soon.

I bought these cast iron trivets.
I have not decided if I will use them for their intended
purpose or paint them and hang them.
They are cast iron. I am not sure if I want to paint them.

I found this vintage Fisher Price Toy Garage at
the thrift store. I am giving it to my friend who is obsessed
with them.
I bought a couple of things Saturday.
I have been looking for art for my bedroom make over.
I was able to find this butterfly hand stitched yarn art.
I am going to paint the frame. I found two milk glass
goblets. A cute vintage girl that plays music and
a fabulous vintage green and aqua tablecloth.

I was at the Beach again.

anniescupboards Reply 10:09 AM
I went to the beach again.
The family was with us this time.
The boogie boards are a must. The
waves were amazing. The seaweed
everywhere, not so much.
