Gifted- Vintage Mod Barbie Clothing with Extras!
My friend who lives in Canada, a very dear sweet friend who I miss but am so excited to get to see her THIS year in May. Her mommy saw that I was playing with vintage Barbies. She knows I have been sewing clothing for them and trying to find my own vintage clothing (which isn't easy as I thought it would be) So she decided to go into her personal vintage stash of Barbie wares and she sent me this beautiful outfit. Her mom made it for her. Oh my heart was gushing I tell you. Gifted from 3 generations at once. Oh my goodness. I feel so spoiled. She even sent me some extra goodies that she still had when her mama was making her Barbie's clothing. How come they don't make sets like this anymore? Don't they know lots of us are still hand making our dolls clothing? I am so excited to get it. I have been playing with that doll nonstop now. I showed off the outfit to the other Barbies and some jealous words were said. Naughty girls. Everyone will get a chance to wear it.
THANK YOU LINDA, Cedara and thank you Grandma!! I will love them FOREVER!
Bumbleberry Stitchin
I just purchased this adorable pin keep from Bumbleberry Stitchin. She is a very good friend of mine. She just opened her site. I am excited she finally has a place online to sell her goodies. Her handmade goodies are just too precious and perfect. Stop by and see what else she is making.

Thursday Chatter!
It was so awesome of hubby to spoil me with a "time piece" (i say watch). It would be nice if I remember to put it on when I go places. I am so not used to having a watch for the longest time. I used it once this whole week. Opps.
I am currently putting together a can for the swap we are doing at the Prim Mart Convention this year. I keep changing my mind on what I was going to to. I at first could not think of anything. Then the ideas came pouring in. Finally I chose one and I am going to stick to it. Again I can't share. Goodness I have some serious I O U's in photos now don't I? (giggle)
I have been thinking clothes since I made my dress. My mind has been all over the place with that fun craft. I even bought 2 more patterns. I am going to make my skirt first. Before I start on the other 2. I have this really unique idea for a skirt. I just need to find the right fabric.
I purchased the best of Men at Work. I just love them. I need to put that in my ipod. My morning cardio is in need of new fresh tunes.
girl disappearing lyrics
So it beings again
1-0 favoring familiar silhouettes
Left whips and chains
Behind I'm boycotting trends
It's my new look this season
Riding on backs of palominos
Primed for an attack
It's as good
As good as it gets
With girl disappearing
What on earth's occurring?
'cause she's right in front of me
A girl disappearing
To some secret prison
Behind her eyes she whispers
"Big surprise there was
No protection by this urban light
So I'm running to
A constellation
Where they can still see you"
Envy can spread
Herself so thinly
She slipped in
Before I could notice it
In my own war
Blood in the cherry zone
When they
Pit woman against feminist
Riding on backs of palominos
Ditching the blond shell
Working her hell
On that red carpet
With girl disappearing
What on earth's occurring?
'cause she's right in front of me
A girl disappearing
To some secret prison
But she's right in front of me
A girl disappearing
To some secret prison
Behind her eyes she whispers
"Big surprise there was
No protection by this urban light
So I'm running to
A constellation
Where they can still see you"
Then I'm running too
If that's a consolation
'cause I can still see you.

Mod Dress I made from New Look Pattern 6826
Oh MY! I am so excited. Did you hear me scream 5 min ago when I tried this on? I made this dress using New Look Pattern 6826. I am simply in love with this pattern. You can alter it a few different ways. I opted not to make pockets even tho my pattern called for it. I made version D. Why make pockets? You are not even going to see them. HAHA Not with this fabric. The total cost of this dress was $3.44 for the pattern (which will gets lots of use now, *investment*) and $4.00 for the fabric, $1.26 for the zipper. DEAL! I am sold. I have enough fabric leftover that I could make a headband and maybe a bag. Oh I won't wear them all together. Goodness no. The headband and bag will help me spruce up my tired jeans and plain shirt day.
I need a good source for clothing fabric. Anyone have one? XOXO
Ps. Did you notice far away my dress looks like X's and O's? I did too. And on right side of the dress, underneath my arms and down, where the seams are sewn, the pattern combined created hearts just on that side. (giggle)
Prezzie from Husband
Hubby came home late Friday night. I thought he was getting some take-away chicken. I could not call him to find out where he was. He left his cell phone at home that morning. When he pulled up to the house I was celebrating, CHICKEN, CHICKEN is here. Nope. No chicken. But he did have a bag in his hand. Oh my! Hubby and I agreed to not spend this year on anything crazy. He didn't listen. He said he could not let 18 years of marriage go by with no gift. (our Wedding Anniversary was Jan, 28) He waited till Valentines Day to gift me. I found out that him and his PARTNER IN CRIME were on a search all day for this particular watch. They found the last one locally. (now I love it more haha) But hubbys knows me just having him is all I ever need. You see I don't ask hubby for jewels and I won't buy it for myself. I think of all the fabric I could buy. Or all the yummy vintage that needs a home. So he forces me to own it. (i gladly accept)Shhh. Your the Bestest Hubs!

Angry Chicken has been making her own underwear. She is passing this urge to me. Oh my. Click here to see what she has been making. I must say I really like them and the styles. They remind me of French Knickers! I could easily make some out of some vintage slips. Or old t-shirts.
I found a cute tutorial on how to make a chipmunk from an old glove.

I have been looking ot make some of my own clothing. I have been researching vintage patterns from the 60's. I find it strange that thru the ages the clothing factory has managed to throw NUMBERS around for sizes. What was a standard 14 ladies in the 60's is now a standard 8 in 2009. Really does a number matter? Its the actual size that matters. To take out the trouble of trying to figure out what size you were in the 40's, 50's 60's and so forth...just get out your tape measure and measure your chest, waist and hips. Then search for your pattern.
Off topic thought- I have been a loyal nail biter since my teens. I am now 38 and I have succefully stopped biting my nails since Dec. 2008. Yipee. I just wanted to see if I could stop biting them. How did I do it? I painted my nails red. I didnt want to mess them up so I would not put them in my mouth. Days passed and I forgot about the biting. Instead I would just tap my finger on my lips. SO close but yet so far away. I bite my nails just out of nerves and during a complete thinking moment. The nail polish actually helped me in two ways. One I didnt want to mess them up and two they actually made my nails stronger. Well now we are half way thru February and I have long nails past the stubs of my fingers. I have noticed that nail polish does not want to stay on my nails to long. I get about 3 days of wear before they start chipping. What are you to do then? Take it all off and repaint? Just sit and peel on my bored days? I actually dont like the look of plain nails. Ok not mine. They have been growing and getting longer and the other day I caught myself walking around like a doctor getting ready for surgery. I refuse to be all girly about them yet I dont want them to be horrid. I dont like getting stuff underneath my nails. Thats annoying. When I had an itch the other day I was So thanking God for that awesome scratch. hehe I do find myself tapping my nails on any hard surface. Yep annoying, I know. I prefer short square filed nails. I dont like them long. How do you go to the bathroom with long nails?

Vintage Magazines found
Vintage Companion, Good House Keeping and Better Homes and Gardens. Oh my a very good find for me indeed. I am unable to find these types of magazines around here. The ones I do find are very expensive. Almost 30 dollars for one. I want to use them. I am going to cut them up and do a few altered projects with them. I can't see spending 30 bucks on one. These were found for 4 and 5 bucks. They had more. I just didn't have the time to look thru everything. I did spend quite a bit of time over there already. I am pleased to know I am able to find these now. Affordable too. They have Time and Life there for 10 bucks. I also saw Mcalls and a few others.
I really love the ads. They are my favorite. I adore the fashion. So each era is so fun to look at. I pretty much stuck to all 50's this time. Next time I will dig into the 40's and the 60's. There is just so much to see. I am going to scan a few things for you and I will share more photos. I am just dying to check each page out. At the store I was only shopping for colors, ads and fashion that grabbed my attention. NOT the articles. HAHA. Cept I did buy the Good Housekeeping magazine because of the casserole cookbook. I want to see how they made them. I personally HATE casseroles. (giggle). I am going to take a few pages and put them in frames and decorate them around my sewing area. I really could have spent all day there just thumbing thru the pages. But laundry was waiting for me at home. Thankfully between cycles I can read. I just need a cup of tea with some honey and maybe a lemon wedge. I hear its getting chilly tonight.
Thankfully I have all this reading to do.
