Vintage Sewing Supplies, gifted.

anniescupboards Reply 11:46 AM

My Mother came by for the Holidays and dropped off a few things. It was mostly full of lace and thick hard cheapy walmart 1.00 fabrics. I have packed most of it up and sent it off to Goodwill. I have kept a few items set aside to sell/trade. I was able to find a few vintage keepers for myself. Here is what I am keeping.

There are a bunch of those vintage ribbon and lace keepers in that box I am keeping. I am going to repurpose them. hehe.

Oh My looky! My friend sent me this. It was hers. Now its mine. I am so excited. I will keep this in my personal collection of favorite collectibles. I have already begun sorting fabric and getting a vintage vibe going. I so love the process of making something so retro and fun. Thank you Debbie! XOXO I so love it. Beyond Love and adore, is that even healthy to love some *thing* so much? (giggle)

Two new dolls to the family, Blythe Dolls

My Dear friend Sheila gave these to me as gifts. I adore them so much. They are so tiny. You have no idea how tiny do you? About 4" tall. I am going to attempt to make them clothing. I want to dress them purty. I have not given them names. I do adore each one so much. Thank you Sheila for spoiling me! I adore them so.

The blonde gal came with dish sets. They are white with pea green color B on each piece. The Orange gal came with oodles of clothing and aprons and these adorable glasses she is wearing. She also came with her own stand. (I have to find more of those stands.) She is a Halloween doll. But she does not have to dress in Halloween clothing. I love how she has an orange star on her left cheek. I will have to show more of them and their goodies very soon. I so can't wait to play.

Ahh Its Monday after Christmas!

Finished the Barbie Jacket

anniescupboards 1 1:30 PM
Next time I will use my own binding instead of store bought premade binding. With Barbie everything has to be small. I am ready to make another one. This could be addicting. I would like to see a few outfits for the year tho. Making Barbie clothing is pretty annoying. Yet, I find it so interesting and addicting. Everything is so small so you are pretty much hand sewing. I found a couple of tricks tho. I will share them with you in a future post. I will even make my own Barbie doll outfit and pass that on to you as a freebie. I have looked around for a free Barbie pattern and no one seems to have one unless your a knitter. I am trying to make something easy and something universal so you can play with the style. Hopefully I shall have something for you soon. Work in progress.

I have purchased these cute prints for Christmas wrapping this year. I used my bird from my Wall Hanging Pattern Keeper to make the presents all mod. I love it.

I finished making Sleepy Jane Raggedy ANN Pattern today. I am now working on another pattern. Oh my CHRISTMAS is so around the corner. Are you ready? Have you done everything you need to do? I certainly have been busy. I have finished everything. I just need to wrap and make cookies. I haven't decided what cookies to make. What are you making? I just love holiday treats!

My first handmade Barbie Doll Dress

anniescupboards 4 7:41 PM
I made this dress today. Its actually the second one made. The first one ended up in the trash. (curses my clunky sewing machine!) It so hard sewing small pieces when the speed of your sewing machine is set to one speed. Like HURRY up and go speed. How many days until Christmas? I really adore how the dress came out. I am making her a coat at the moment. I hope this one is easier with less cursing. (giggle)

Needle Punch Gripper from Provo Craft

anniescupboards Reply 2:04 PM

I went to Joann Fabrics yesterday just to pick up plastic snaps to sew on some barbie clothing I am making. As I was wondering around the store looking at all the pretty fabric, and dazing into a Oh I wonder what I shall make next thoughts, I saw this gripper. I have several of their products. They are a really good quality product. I have yet to experience bad with any of my purchases. Yet I was really nervous about buying this. Will it actually hold the fabric in place? Will it? My answer is YES it will. The gripper cost $29.99 However if you bring in your coupon for 40% that is always in the flyer and you can always find it online too. You can save 12.00 like I did. Now they did have an entire needle punch set. You can see it here. That is also in the store and is also $29.99. (use that coupon). I am not sure how this is. I will let you know tho. hehe I plan on getting it as a back up. It comes with 4 needles. 1 more than my Cameo Needle came with. It also comes with the holder. I am wondering if I can fit a whole spool of thread on there? I have spools of wool thread. I would rather use the spool than have to fill up the bobbins. You don't have to use the bobbins. You can just use DMC thread fresh from the little black wrappers. There is a tool you can purchase to wind up your dmc threads on to the bobbins. You can see it here. I can't say I would actually take the time out to roll each color up. Yet the design and the idea is very cleaver for you neat freaks. I totally love how the needle punch set comes in its own zipper case. I also like the feature of how everything has a place. My cameo is getting tossed around in my sewing basket in a baggie. This bugs me so.

Oh and its purple. (gush)

Blonde Bubble Cut Hair Vintage Barbie Doll find

anniescupboards 6 7:08 PM

I found this doll nekky, dirty and alone. I quickly cleaned her up and dug into some vintage doll wear and pulled this outfit together for her. I dressed her in a handmade skirt that was made just for her. A vintage Aqua and white stripe bodysuit and a vintage night gown top. (fab-U-Lous DarLing)I did take off her skirt and give it a cleaning tho. You can notice the spots. I tried soaking it twice with mild detergent. But the stains were still there. Just lighter. So then I just applied a tad bit of bleach and they quickly started to get even lighter and most faded. Its now drying in the shower. I will update you with photos later.
I found this box of jammed full of jammed packed vintage Barbie clothing. I didn't know what really was inside. But I did make out a handmade outfit or too and I was pretty much looking for clothing to take apart to use them as patterns to make my style of clothing any how so...WHY not get it. There was lots of stuff in there. Nothing I can say to brag about. A whole mess of 1980's and skipper clothing. I did find a few of Ken's clothing. There is an entire canopy bedding set in that box. I should put that on ebay. Someone might need it who has the bed already. I don't need it.

These were all the handmade clothing in the box. Too Cute. See the vintage feed sack shirt? I like finding someone's vintage handmade toys. Just so love it. Hence why I want to make some myself.
I found this Barbie doll while I was thrifting today. I have seen her before. She was in a bin with a few other nekky dolls and a fully clothed michael jackson with glove. (giggle) Her head stamp read 1958. I cant make out her butt stamp. It looks like it says 1962? 63? or 68? She looks like the reproduction Barbie that came out in the 1990's. I cant really tell. I will have to do some more research and find out that date. Its all rubbed and worn so that is why I am having trouble. I will have to get a better look to see that date. She almost looks like her body does not match her face. Again...more research will have to be done. Her toe nails are still polished with red but fading and her fingernails are polished but its faded and yellow yet you can see traces of red. Just looks faded. She was pretty dirty. I washed her and will have to wash her several times.

I gave her a cleaning with dawn soap and water and a cotton ball. I have to go back again still and clean more. I am just trying to be careful not to get water all over her or inside her.
LOOK how clean I got her arms. There is staining on her legs that is not coming off. But all in all I think she makes a rather nice doll for someone who DOES not like Barbie. hehe I just want to make her clothing. And I do love this style and era. I am a doll collector so I guess one is ok.
I need shoes. I have no shoes.

Vintage Christmas Ornies

anniescupboards 3 6:53 PM

Today I found these while thrifting. I was so excited. I have been looking for them. Lately I have been seeing them locally but most are charging PER ornie, which gets expensive. Depending on size and shape the price gets to be insane. I found all these and 2 more that didn't fit (the gold star sunken in ones) I have them set aside. I paid $5.00 for all. They are currently still on that table next to my bed. I am thinking of leaving them there so I can fall asleep and wake up to them. They are just so pretty. Oh memories!!

Blank Wood Stacking Dolls, Matryoshka

anniescupboards 1 11:41 AM
I picked up three sets of these wood stacking blank dolls at Michael's Craft Store. I now have four complete sets. I had already purchased one at the beginning of the holiday season when I saw them in September. I squealed actually when I first saw them. I have been looking all over for them. I never knew where to get them. I guess its just a holiday thing. Cause they were clearing them out for $4.99 and I scooped up the last of them. I am going to try and make them into pretty little mod, prim and repro nesting dolls.

Oh and those magazines are worth a peek and keep. They have some really yummy recipes in them and some great ideas and a few patterns for ornies for your tree. I adore the colors they are using. Maybe I can scan a few pages for ya? Maybe.

Matryoshka dolls are Russian dolls. Read more about where they came from here.

Free Retro Holiday Christmas Tablerunner Pattern

anniescupboards Reply 8:26 AM

I adore this Retro Holiday Table runner creation I made. I have already stained it up too with a little bit of Thanksgiving gravy. (giggle) I have the free pattern here to offer you. It's in pdf format. I have been wanting to use my vintage feedsacks for something creative and finally I found a use. I love how it looks when you turn it over. If the feedsack had a cute photo or saying I would have used that in the front of table runner. But I didn't find anything "Christmas" on the feedsacks I had. Have fun and enjoy!
