Star Wars Jedi Dress made

anniescupboards 7 12:40 PM
I have been playing with vintage sheets.
I made this today.
I just finished it.
I cut it out yesterday and
I wanted to sew it but I needed
a zipper to match.
I used a vintage pattern for the top
and then re-sized it and altered it.
It came out a little loose on the top part.
I am overall happy with it.
I know where to make it smaller next time.
I will make this dress again.
I am excited about this style.
It's a new one for me.
I really adore it.
Check your local thrift stores
for vintage bed sheets
and make yourself a DIY dress.
Grab an old or new pattern.
Sheets are awesome to work with and
feel great to wear in this hot Florida Sunshine.

Jean Jacket makeover

anniescupboards 1 2:17 PM

 I made this jacket over.
I bought it a long time ago.
That tie too.

This summer jean vests are in fashion.
I decided that I would cut the sleeves off this
jacket and then break out the Beadazzler.

I just added some pink and purple and pearl stones
to the shoulder part of the jacket.
I also put 3 gold studs in the pocket.
I sewed the Kitty patch on.
I gathered my vintage and new pins to stick on it.
I plan on using the tie too.

I want to add a few more studs to it but I need to buy
a certain pack. I am hunting for that tomorrow.
I just need a few. The back is going to have something on
it. I have no clue what. I am still figuring that out.

Beach Day

anniescupboards Reply 2:11 PM
 Saturday was beach day.
Usually I am not at the beach.
Ever. I live so close to it.
My friends who live so far away from it
scream at me all the time.
I just don't like all the sand.
I can only put up with it for so long.
My ocd kicks into overdrive and then I get annoyed.

I like my milky white skin.
Hubby and I rode our boogie boards.
I packed a wonderful lunch.
By 1:30 pm We were done.
Had enough.
Hubby was like,
"I feel crunchy can we go?"
ha!ha!

Thrift Store Owl

anniescupboards Reply 2:06 PM

This little owl is about the size of my hand.
He is a music box.
They told at the thrift store he did not work.
While standing in line waiting to pay for him
I noticed a switched on the back of his tail
feathers. I pushed the lever over and
his tail started playing music.
The music box works just fine.
I paid $3.oo for him. He is too cute and perfect.
I am making over my master bedroom.
Just a few new colors and such.
He will be perfect in there.
I will show photos once I complete it.
I finally was able to choose a color for my new thrifted
table I found a bit ago. It was really hard
trying to choose a color. I wanted 4 different ones.

I did not buy either of them. The one
in the back is Fire King. The mushroom
one had no name. Sometimes I find out
these no name - like Pyrex dishes are
made from Gemco. This was not labeled
anything or stamped anything. It very well could
be a Gemco dish.

I found 2 Unicorns and a Pegasus I already made
over if you scroll down past this post I posted it.
I am going to use the hand stitched bird art in my room
for my make over. I love handmade vintage
art by some random crafter.
It is my favorite kind.

These birds are going in my crafty room
on the wall. I love how they have fake flowers
on them. Usually I am not a fake flower person.

Vintage Thrift Store Pyrex

anniescupboards Reply 1:53 PM
The only place you are going to find Pyrex often
is your local thrift store. Sure flea markets and
yard sales too. You have to wait for the weekend around
here to go to any of those sales. The thrift store is open
6 days a week here. Some are open 7.

I bought that dish to add to my collection.

 Just keep your eyes open.
I bought this sunflower lid for myself.
I bought the Aqua Pyrex Butterprint for a friend.

I was at the thrift store the day before and I took these photos.
They wanted way way to much money for all of these.
Except the ugly brown was 1.99. Meh. You know how I feel about
the browns. Meh. So the next day I went back and the two dish on the right
were gone. Someone must have loved them.
Yet the two goodies I wanted.....still there. Yippee!

This stayed there. It was 50 cents.
Not for even 50 cents.
I know, I am a Pyrex snob.

Spray Paint Thrift Store finds

anniescupboards Reply 1:45 PM
I found this pegasus on Tuesday.
He looked like someone accidentally sprayed him
with black paint. Maybe that was the original.
I don't know but he needed to get pretty.
I paid $1.00 for him.
I painted him with aqua spray paint.
I cleaned him really good then sprayed.
I did not use any primer.
He is ceramic and has a made in Japan
 1983 sticker on the bottom.

Birthday around here

anniescupboards 1 1:41 PM
My youngest son turned 17.
We have been busy around here.
Sorry I was slacking on my blogging.
It was all about my son last week!

Gifted By Callie!!

anniescupboards Reply 1:38 PM
A dear blog reader names Callie
Gifted me these amazing goodies.
I was so touched.
She thought of me in her thrifting adventures
and scooped up that Vera apron for me.
I just ADORE everything she sent.
But I wore that apron for 4 hours yesterday.
I was cleaning for 2 of them. The
rest was passing mirrors and smiling.

THANK YOU CALLIE!!

Used Furniture at Thrift Stores

anniescupboards Reply 1:34 PM
When shopping for used furniture you have to take a few things into
consideration. You may have to paint the item. You will
have to clean it very well regardless of painting or not.
Bring a baby wipe or hand wipe with you when you go out
looking at furniture. Rub grubby areas you are concerned about with it.
I do this with dishes.

I suggest bringing a tape measure.

This green table is an industrial sewing table. Gah. I love it.

This piece would make a perfect end table.
Try not to think of the what the item was made for.
Use the item for what you intend and want.
There are no rules to decorating this house of yours.
This could fit into a crafty room. A bedroom.
A front porch.

This was very hard to leave.
I can't have them all.
This would make an excellent TV stand.
Oh no wait......
record player stand. YES!

I am still wanting a record player. Hubby knows.
I keep reminding him.

I love a good thrifty find

anniescupboards Reply 8:53 AM
I found this wonderful Care Bear pillowcase.
I turned it inside out to see who made it.
It was handmade. It is actually fabric
someone made into a pillowcase.
I am going to make it into something for me.
I am addicted to everything rainbow at the moment.

I found these two little mini statues.
I love how I found the Rainbow Bear.
The little lady is actually a pin cushion.
She is so cute. I had no idea
she was a pin cushion when I bought her.
I found out when taking these photos.
I paid .49 cents for each one.

I am going to change this frame into a make up holder.
I found a pin on Pinterest which led me to

Vintage Night Stand Makeover

anniescupboards 3 1:38 PM

I found this vintage nightstand at a local thrift store.
Paid $15 for it. Someone has painted it white.
I am going to repaint it. I first need to strip it.
I want to see what is under the white.

I was just telling hubby how I really wanted
to find a little nightstand that look more like
a bookshelf than a nightstand.

 Then boom today,
I find this. Pretty Amazing.

I love the curves and the body of it.
Could it be more perfect?
The inside of the draw is a hot ugly mess.
Just really dirty and I saw cob webs. Meh.
Price you pay for thrifty happiness.

I found all this Vintage Pyrex today at the thrift store.
I did not buy any of them. They look ok in the photos but when
you see them in person up close, not so much. Faded, dirty
on the sides you are not seeing and scratched up. If they
didnt have such High price tags I might have bought the little one
in the right hand corner. I do love the Autumn Harvest.
The inside was like someone took a blue marker
and baked it into it. It has this blue faded color
all inside. I am not even sure how that could happen.

Good thing I passed those up.
I had these waiting for me at the next store.
I have to tell you the red vintage bowl is not in
the best shape. I paid $1.oo for it. It has faded
spots all over. It will be the cats new water dish.

I am not sure why I bought this.
I want to do something with it.
It went on a lamp.
It is not real milk glass.
I do love the bumpy texture of it.

How fabulous is this vintage owl glass I found?
I am excited to add another glass to my vintage collection.
It has three owls on the glass.

Speaking of Owls. I found this bell with a pair.

When you see Pyrex I do not buy.
Keep in mind these are the reasons why.
I am at a thrift store and I have to suffer with
these kind of prices on this kind of Pyrex.

I made homemade bread in a machine.

anniescupboards 4 10:43 AM
I bought a bread maker at the thrift store.
I have been checking them out lately.
So many are donated all dirty and icky.
GOOD LUCK if you find one with a manual too.
The store I bought it at had a "tested and works" sticker on it.
I read everything there was to find out
in Google about bread making machines.
I read the comments from lots of people saying
using a bread maker isn't really making homemade bread.
I have to disagree. It is. I used to buy mine from the bakery dept.
I now will be making it at home. I call that homemade.
I am sure there is lots of debate
on if your hands get dirty or not.
But let us agree that it is homemade bread.

I love the fact I can just dump all the ingredients in
and walk away and fresh bread will be made in 3 hours.
I made Standard White Bread for my first time.
I used King Arthur Bread Flour.

This was the first time using this bread machine or any bread machine for that matter.
I first researched the internet for the manual. There are tons of free manuals
people scan and offer on their blogs. Apparently I am not the only one
who would rather pay $15 dollars for a bread maker than 100.00.
I found my manual and I studied it. They also offered recipes in there.
I used one of them.

In order for your bread to taste good you have to use really good
ingredients for your recipe. So buy really good quality products.
Some of my friends mill their own wheat. (so jealous)
If you go to your local organic store you will find lots of
flours. I found a website HERE that tells you different types of flours
and their uses. That page will come in handy.
I bought a Regal Kitchen Pro.
I read the company is no longer making them or offering service on them.
This bread maker makes some pretty damn perfect bread.
I am happy with my purchase.
I am ready to start making sweet breads and healthy breads.
This is going to be addicting. I may need another one to keep up.

Thrift Store Displays

anniescupboards Reply 10:49 AM

That record is huge!
This store always smells weird
but I do love it.

I could photograph thrift store displays all day.

The weekend was Fab!

anniescupboards 2 10:40 AM
I went thrifting really fast Saturday morning.
I saw lots of Pyrex I did not want.
The square oblong baking dish at the top
is actually Fire King.

I am LOVING this photo my friend shared of her
tablecloth she purchased in my Etsy shop.
That ombre  heart tablecloth. It looks
absoulty fabulous here. I see her Spring Daisy
Pyrex Collection in the back.
How dreamy is this photo?

Mother's Day was amazing.
I was spoiled the whole weekend.

I found this dress Friday.
It is so yellow and perfect. I have been
wanting a yellow dress for over a year now and
I was unable to find the right color.
There are lots of mustards.
I wanted buttercup.
The buttons on the dress would not stay
in the button holes.
They were too small.
I changed them.

Thrifty Tuesday afternoon

anniescupboards 2 2:48 PM
I found this Big Yellow Vintage Pyrex bowl.
It is the most perfect bowl I have seen since thrifting
them. This one is like shiny and new as if it came out of the box.
I quickly grabbed it and got ever so happy.
No scratches, no rub or fade marks and just shiny all over.
Of course I have this. I have several of them.
None in this wonderful condition.

$15.00 for a Vintage toy Singer Sewing Machine.
No thank you. There was no power cord.
The battery area was completely rusted.
It is still cute and perfect for a display. I can imagine paying this
kind of money at an antique store but not a thrift store.
Plus they wrote on it in black marker. Fail.

This store does not sell used furniture yet they display it.

I wanted that middle sewing dummy. All perfect for my crafty room.

I found all this extra muslin when cleaning up
all those fabric boxes. I have lots of stuff to make with this.
I am pretty happy about finding it all. I was almost
headed to the store to buy more muslin.
I can begin sewing instead.
